Meet the client

We began by interviewing one of the project managers at Branch to better understand their business structure, and their goals. We learned that Branch provides a platform for companies and their employees to manage their schedules. They allow employees to post shifts, pick up shifts posted by others, and also a feature that allows employees to receive advanced pay for the hours they have already worked. Branch approached us asking if we could identify current areas of opportunity along with opportunities related to potential new feature. Minimal information can be shared regarding the potential new feature due to intellectual property considerations.

One of the first methods we utilized was to construct a journey map in order to better understand the typical experience of a person using Branch. The journey map follows a persona that was created for an employee user. From this journey map, we were able to identify more specific areas of opportunity. Additionally, it predicted how a potential new feature would fit into the current experience.

Rapid Prototyping

After identifying potential areas of opportunity, potential new features were wireframed. We consulted with one of the lead developers from Branch to better scope the amount of time it would require to build each of the features. With their feedback in mind, we decided to run a Kano Analysis on eleven of the potential features.

Findings & Recommendations

The opportunity space that we focused on was adding new dynamic paths for users to get their shifts picked up along with find available shifts to take. These paths allowed for employees to do more than just post their shifts and pick up their shifts.
